Tudor's (Watch) new Basel 2018 - how about blackbay 1958?

Tudor, the watch brand, has been getting better and better in recent years and has been recognized by everyone. TUDOR Clair de Rose M35500-0004 Every year, the release of its new products naturally began to attract the attention of many watch friends. In the series of new models released by Tudor at the 2018 Basel exhibition, three watches have attracted much attention. Respectively, Jay Chou endorsed "Black shell Red and blue circle GMT, 1926" and "Black Shell 1958".

Rolex Learning also launched a red and blue circle GMT this year, TUDOR Black Bay Bronze M79250BA-0001 complementing each other, and the heat of Tudor's red and blue circle GMT is naturally high. And Jay Chou as a spokesperson in 1926, not to mention the publicity and education of the brand spokesperson is also widely known. In the country, the discussion of Black Bay 1958 is relatively few enterprises.

Overseas, however, the Black Bay heat of 1958 was quite high. Hodinky selected the best everyday watches at the 2018 Basel Watch Fair, both Imperial Black Bay 1958 and Imperial Black Bay GMT were selected, and at the same time, other foreign watch media praised the Black Bay 1958.

Unfortunately, the new Tudor Black Bay 1958 was not officially listed at home or abroad, TUDOR Royal M28403-0009 and only a few media and big dealers got samples without movement as a display. So the core selection Watchoosy first published the Black Bay red and blue circle GMT and Jay Chou endorsement 1926 related articles "Tudor new red and blue circle GMT, the best day watch this year?" | ", "The truth! Jay Chou endorsement Tudor has turned to SW movement.

Four months after the Basel Watch Show, the 1958 Black Bay finally went on sale. So we quickly bought a piece of the first time, hoping to give you the fastest and most practical physical evaluation, to share the useful information of this watch.

At Basel 2012, Tudor introduced a new collection called Black Bay. The design is inspired by diving watches from the history of the brand. Black Babe Bay series quickly detonated the global market, numerous praise! 15 November 2013 - Tudor wins the "Revival" Award at the Geneva International Watch Prix for the first time with Black Bay. In the following years, the Black Shell continued to grow, and derivative versions of various colors, disks, and materials continued to appear, becoming Tudor's best-selling series.

In 1954, Tudor followed the social brother Rolex launched a diving watch, but in the early days, due to the current corporate technology, its waterproof deep learning can only do 100 meters by itself. In 1958, Tudor introduced Ref.7924, which increased the maximum impact of waterproofing design to 200 meters.

The 1958 series launched this year is actually a small subdivision brand under Black Bay Bay, derived from the historic diving platform brand in 1958, which is still a retro line. In this case, the product has been launched for nearly 6 years, why can win many overseas media and cousin's praise and hot discussion?

The trick is that the new 1958 case has been significantly modified to be smaller, thinner and more hand-hugging!

Before that, there were two generations of the Black Bay Pipa series. The difference is that the first generation of immigrants carried the ETA movement. It is configured as a rose logo + metal plate band (optional). The second generation uses the Imperial manufactured rudder movement, while obtaining the COSC Observatory accuracy certification, configured as, coat of arms + vintage spike belt (optional).

The original retro style and reasonable pricing have made the first generation of Black Babe Bay series sell very well, and then use the self-made movement with a capacity of 70 hours, and sales have even increased. But whether it is the Black Bay generation or the second generation, there is an obvious problem, that is, whether it is measuring physical data or visual perception, its case is too thick!

Rolex Water Ghost 12.6mm thick, Longines Concas 11.7mm thick, Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 15.4mm thick, Omega 8500 Seahorse 13mm thick, Omega Seahorse 300 12.6mm thick. The first generation of Tudor Black Bay has a thickness of 12.9 mm, which has developed into the mainstream thickness of diving watches. Conventional other diving watch companies can take the "thick outer ring + thin shell + raised back cover" way, using computer vision system error to reduce the sense of cultural weight.

However, the designers of the royal rudder actually added most of the thickness to the middle shell. At the same time, the sides of the middle shell do not have any shape, only a simple flat polishing. Finally, the real Black Bay Royal rudder is very thick and it looks even thicker to the naked eye.

When upgrading to the second generation, the diameter and thickness of the movement were increased because the homemade movement had an ultra-long power of 70 hours. Finally, although the diameter of the watch remains at 41 mm, but the thickness of the watch increased from 12.9 mm to 14.9 mm, at this time Tudor designers really have no way to increase the thickness to the middle shell, otherwise the watch will certainly not sell, and finally can only use the raised back cover to cover the increased thickness of 2 mm.

The new 1958 series not only reduced the case diameter to 39 mm, but also reduced the thickness to 11.9 mm. Before I saw this watch, just looking at the size data released by foreign clock media, I felt very strange. Compared to the first generation, the thickness of the new 1958 has changed from 12.9 mm to 11.9 mm. How can so many people say that Royal Rudder has lost its "flanker" title?

In 2012, when the Black Bay series was born, there was a very inexplicable design. Tudor added a small aluminum ring to the waterproof threaded tubing where the case and handle meet. This small ring may be corroded after long-term use, and finally it is completely unsightly (the corroded aluminum alloy pipe is in the lower right corner of the above figure).

Some friends may wonder, the same is an aluminum alloy material material, why the small ring on the waterproof hose may cause corrosion, and the positive aluminum alloy is rarely heard because of the outer ring?

In fact, whether it is the outer ring or the small ring on the waterproof hose, as long as it is aluminum material, it will be corroded by seawater and salt water. However, the front outer ring is easier to keep clean, while the small ring at the joint with the box is easy to retain seawater and salt water, and salty sweat is more likely to solidified into dirt at the hard-to-reach joint, resulting in lasting corrosion.

This year Tudor finally changed the design on the Black Bay series, ditching the previous small aluminum rings.

Changes in the countertop section, in addition to the aluminum ring, the new 1958 also replaced the original etched rose logo with a three-dimensional relief, more retro.

The noticeable changes in appearance are not limited to the size of the case and handle. The new 1958 still uses an aluminum alloy outer ring, but the dive countdown scale on the ring is changed from the original silver white to the same gold color as the dial font, which is the first time such a collocation has appeared on the Rudder diving watch.

Many brands in the "fine tuning" copy of the design, it is easy for us to go astray, so many watch friends for the copy, the more loyal to an original, the better. This time, Tudor changed to a diving outer ring with a golden color in 1958, which is not a violation, but can echo the dial display font, making the watch more comprehensive and retro.

In order to find the starting point of the diving circle in a short time, the emperor's rudder uses a striking red triangle as its logo. At the same time, the red triangle is also inlaid with a "night pearl", so that it can be seen clearly even under low light conditions such as underwater.

This year's new 1958 is slightly tweaked compared to the first and second generation Blackbay. In addition to the color of the pearl as the scale of the outer ring becomes gold, the size of the pearl is also made a little smaller, and can be framed in the red triangle. The design follows the original version of Ref.7924 from 1958.
